School Lunch

Note: In the photo above, one kid gets pesto pasta as the base, the other plan fettuccine with red pasta sauce packed separately. Both kids have one lamb chop, roasted carrots, roasted green beans, and sliced and roasted green zucchini.

Easiest way to pack a school lunch

Our kids greatly prefer we pack them lunch every day instead of having them buy lunch from the school cafeteria. Their biggest problem with buying lunch is that the lines are so long, you can easily spend 10 minutes of the 20 minutes you’re given to eat in our public school waiting in line.

However, we don’t love to spend time packing lunches in the morning, finding another things to piece together that each child will eat.

The solution we came up with is that we pack the kids Tupperware of our dinner left overs to eat the next day. Since it’s room temperature and not cold from a fridge (we do include an ice pack), they always find it just fine to eat.

If it’s not enough food, sometimes we’ll add a cut up apple with lemon juice to prevent browning, or a small container of cherry tomatoes.

This way it’s just part of clearing the table after a meal and we make sure we have plenty of leftovers from each dinner.

Our mornings are way less hectic since we have our lunches made and ready to grab, and we can rest easy knowing the kids are getting two veggies, a protein, and a carb with their lunch.

The lunch above features pasta, roasted cauliflower with apples, roasted carrot chips, roasted green beans with lemon, and grilled chicken.

Don’t forget to make sure they have an insulated lunch bag, with an ice pack to keep the food safe to eat by lunch time! We also always pack them a separate water bottle with their lunch to make sure they’re drinking enough.
